Mechanism of Action

Tenoxicam inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis and providing long-acting anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic therapeutic effects.

Indications

  • Treats painful osteoarthritis inflammatory symptoms.
  • Manages rheumatoid arthritis chronic inflammation.
  • Reduces ankylosing spondylitis persistent pain.
  • Used for acute musculoskeletal pain.
  • Provides prolonged anti-inflammatory therapeutic relief.

Contra-indications

  • Avoid with active gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Contraindicated in severe renal impairment.
  • Avoid after prior NSAID anaphylaxis.
  • Contraindicated during coronary bypass surgery.
  • Avoid with advanced hepatic failure.

Doses

Adult dose 20 mg once daily, short-term for acute conditions; lowest effective dose for chronic use.
Pediatric dose Not recommended for children; safety and efficacy not established.
